— FUHS THEATRE MISSION

FUHS Theatre prides itself on delivering a first-rate Theatre Arts Education to each and every student. Our courses are supported by extra-curricular and co-curricular opportunities in the Arts. Students have a chance to not only learn in the classroom, but also a chance to learn from master teachers. Below you will find a listing of our current course offerings.

THEATRE 1

Theatre 1 is a survey course. Students have an opportunity to learn acting skills in pantomime, improv, storytelling, stage combat, solo and duet performance. This course also gives students an opportunity to learn basics in set, lighting, costume, hair, and makeup design.

THEATRE 2/3/4

Theatre 2/3/4 is an advanced course in the arts. Students in this class are a part of the IDN Ensemble. Students have an opportunity to stage a 2nd stage production and compete at a local, state, and national level. This is the course for students who, after Theatre 1, want to focus on a specialized area of the theatre including acting, directing, and/or theatrical design.

THEATRE IB HL 1/2

Theatre IB is a course for students who are interested in the theories of acting, directing, and design. This course is focused on world theatre traditions, where students learn the theatrical context for creating theatre. Students complete four examinations including an oral presentation of a world theatre tradition, an oral presentation on a theatre theorist, an eighteen minute collaborative devised theatre piece, and a director's notebook. More information on this course can be found at: www.fuhsibtheatre.com

Technical Theatre

Technical theatre is a class that focuses on the non-performance aspects of theatre. Using mathematical concepts, aesthetic appreciation, application of scientific principals, and an understanding of the elements of theatre and theatre production, the technical theatre students will design sets, lights, and costume, and receive practical instruction and practice creating sets, lights, and costumes for various productions.
